DIY Basket Pin Cushion

This is a round basket-shaped pincushion that can hold small items. You can make wonderful and cute sewing items using scrap fabric. I hope you can make it easily with the pattern I shared.

Fabric Scraps Craft Idea [sewingtimes]

The finished measurements of this item are approximately 6″ (15㎝) W × 6″(15㎝) H × 2¾″(7㎝) D.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( quilting cotton )
1  11⅜″ × 3⅛″(28.7㎝ × 8㎝)
1  4⅛″ × 4⅛″(10.5㎝ × 10.5㎝)
1  5⅛″ × 5⅛″(13㎝ × 13㎝)
8  3⅜″ × 5⅜″(8.5㎝ × 13.5㎝)

Firm interfacing (It is similar to ‘Pellon 520 Deco-Fuse Firm’ or ’71F Peltex Single-sided Fusible’) or Card board
1  10⅝″ × 2⅜″(26.7㎝ × 6㎝)
1  3⅜″ × 3⅜″(8.5㎝ × 8.5㎝)
1  4″ × 4″(10㎝ × 10㎝)

Cotton Wool

Place the right sides together of the two side panels and sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

All eight side panels sewn together.

Sew the first and last side panels facing each other.

Turn right side out.

Fuse the interfacing, centered, to the wrong side. Basted around the edge of the fabric for the bottom of the outer and secure the thread.

Fold the inner side panel in half and sew the ends to form a cylinder.

Place and pin the outer side panel over the top of the inner side panel with the right sides together. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Sew along the inner side panel and the inner bottom panel. It is easier to sew by manual than a sewing machine with a firm interfacing attached. If you use card board instead of a interfacing, after sewing the side panel and the bottom panel, attach card board to the inside with tape.

Turn the outer side panel over to cover the inner side panel, put the cotton wool through the bottom part. While maintaining the cylindrical shape of the inside, you need to put in an appropriate amount of cotton wool.

Cover the hole with an outer bottom panel. And slipstitch the bottom in place.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
