DIY Cosmetic Bag with Brush Holder

This is adding a brush roll to the “Easy Makeup Bag” I uploaded a while ago. The perfect size for the cosmetic stuff I have to carry around when I travel. Just follow the step-by-step instructions and you will have your own Cosmetic Bag.

How to make a Travel Makeup Bag

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 8″(20㎝) W × 6″(15㎝) H × 3¼″(8㎝) D .

You may watch the full video tutorial on my Youtube channel.

Share this video with a lot of people who need it.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( Quilting Cotton )
2   12⅜″ × 8¼″ (31.6㎝ × 21㎝)
1   8¾″ × 4¾″ (22㎝ × 12㎝)
1   8¾″ × 8⅞″ (22㎝ × 22.5㎝)
1   2⅜″ × 8¾″ (6㎝ × 22㎝)
1   6″ × 5⅛″ (15㎝ × 13㎝)
1   8″ × 9½″ (20㎝ × 24㎝)

Lining ( Quilting Cotton )
2   12⅜″ × 8¼″ (31.6㎝ × 21㎝)
1   12¾″ × 8¾″ (32.5㎝ × 22㎝)
1  6″ × 5⅛″ (15㎝ × 13㎝)

Zipper
1   8″(20㎝)

Fusible fleece (It is similar to Pellon 987F ‘ or ‘Vilene H630’)
2   11⅝″ × 7½″ (29.6㎝ × 19㎝)

Mid-weight woven fusible interfacing (Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex’ or ‘Vilene G700’)
1   12″ × 8″ (30.5㎝ × 20㎝)

Magnetic Buttons

The pattern for making this can be drawn by yourself by watching my YouTube video.

Cut the interfacing into the shape of the pattern. And fuse the fusible fleece, centered, to the wrong side. Cut by adding 3/8” from the edge of the interfacing.

Place the handle between the two outer fabrics and sew.

Cut the outer and lining of the bag flap into a round shape on one side.

Draw the markings onto the bag flap. Draw the markings onto the brush holder piece. Aligned with each other’s lines and pin in place. Sew those lines. Then press and sew flat the bottom edges of the brush holder and clip in place.

Place and sew the brush flap on the top of the inner bag flap piece.

Sew bag flap lining and outer fabric right sides together. Then turn it right side out.

Place the zipper right sides together on top of the outer layer. Place the lining on top of the zip. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″. Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.

Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zip the same way.

Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 1/8” away from the zipper.

Align the ends of the flaps with the outer of the main fabric and sew.

Flip the layers so the outer bag pieces are right sides together, and the lining pieces are right sides together. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″, leaving a 3-inch opening.

Combine the seams so that a flat base is formed. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Turn out our cosmetic bag through the hole that we left not stitched. After this, sew up this hole, and the cosmetic bag is ready!

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
