DIY Pencil Case – Step by Step Guide for Beginners

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 8¼″(21㎝) W × 3⅝″(9㎝) H.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

② 10¼″ × 4⅜″ (26㎝ × 11㎝) Outer layer
② 10¼″ × 4⅜″ (26㎝ × 11㎝) Lining
② 9½″ × 3⅝″ (24㎝ × 9㎝) Mid-weight woven fusible interfacing
① 8″ (20㎝) Zipper

Bend zipper ends in place and sew (at both the pull side and end stop side).

Mark 5/8″, 4″, 4″ from the right end of the outer layer.

Place with the center of the zipper and pin it.
Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance.

Place the lining on top of the zip. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

At this time, sew the non-zippered side down by 5/8″ .Please refer to the video for details.

Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.

Mark the same point on the other outer layer. Center the zipper and sew.

Place the lining, right side down on top. Pin in place.
Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance.

Flip the layers so the outer bag pieces are right sides together, and the lining pieces are right sides together.

Sew the sides of the non-zippered part.

Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 1/8” away from the zipper.

Turn wrong side out. Sew 3 sides with an allowance of about 3/8″, leaving a 3-inch opening.

Turn out our pencil case through the hole that we left not stitched. After this, sew up this hole.

Fold the non-zippered part inward and sew the edges.

YOU ARE FINISHED!
