DIY Small Clutch Bag

I made a small clutch bag that L-shaped today. You can slip your hand through and carry it as a clutch bag, or snap on a removable wristlet strap and let the bag dangle from your wrist. Try making a practical bag at home yourself.

How to make a Purse Bag with wristlet strap

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 8¾″(22㎝) W × 6″(15㎝) H.

You may watch the full video tutorial on my Youtube channel.

Share this video with a lot of people who need it.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( Quilting Cotton )
2   9½″ × 6¾″ (24㎝ × 17㎝)
2   8¼″ × 8¾″ (20.5㎝ × 22㎝)
1   2⅜″ × 15¾″ (6㎝ × 40㎝)

Lining ( Quilting Cotton )
2   9½″ × 6¾″ (24㎝ × 17㎝)

Zipper
1   13¾″(35㎝)

5/8″(1.5㎝) wide D ring and Swivel Snap

Fusible fleece (It is similar to Pellon 987F ‘ or ‘Vilene H630’)
2   8¾″ × 6″ (22㎝ × 15㎝)

Mid-weight woven fusible interfacing (Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex’ or ‘Vilene G700’)
2   7½″ × 4″ (18.5㎝ × 10㎝)

The pattern for making this can be drawn by yourself by watching my YouTube video.

Cut the fusible fleece into the shape of the pattern.
And fuse the fusible fleece, centered, to the wrong side of the outer layer.

Cut by adding 3/8” from the edge of the interfacing.

Attach the midweight interfacing to the center of the wrong side of the pocket fabric. Fold half the right sides together. Pin and sew around the edges, leaving a 2-inch opening in one side. Clip the corners and turn it right side out by pulling the fabric through the opening. Press, pin and topstitch around all the edges.

Place the inner pocket on the right side of the lining and sew.

Fold the strip piece in half, wrong sides together to make a crease. Then fold each edge in toward the middle and press. Stitch along both long edges of the strip, 1/8” from the edge.

Check out the video for the process of making a wrist strap.

With assembled outer layer right side up, center zipper right side facing down along the two edge. The small snips will help the zip adapt to the curved edge of the pouch and make the inserting the zip easier. Pin in place. Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance.

Place the lining, right side down on top. Pin in place. Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance.

Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.

Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zip the same way.

Flip the layers so the outer bag pieces are right sides together, and the lining pieces are right sides together.

Sew all the way around with an allowance of about 3/8″, leaving an opening.

Turn out our clutch bag through the hole that we left not stitched. After this, sew up this hole, and the clutch bag is ready!

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
