DIY Square Pencil Pouch

Learn how to sew a DIY pencil case with lining and zipper. It can be used not only as a pencil case, but also as a cosmetic pouch or toiletry pouch. The method I am showing this time is to sew the seam allowance of the outer and lining of the pouch together, resulting in the neat inside of the pouch.

Mid-weight woven fusible interfacing (Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex’ or ‘Vilene G700’)

The pattern for making this can be drawn by yourself by watching my YouTube video.

Fold the inner pocket fabric in half and sew. Turn it right side out, place on the lining and sew.

Fold your tab fabric piece in half with the 2” sides together and press. Fold in half to make your tabs. Place the tabs on the both sides of the outer layer and sew.

With assembled outer layer right side up, center zipper right side facing down along top edge. Pin in place. Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance.

Attach the outer to the other side of the zip the same way.

Place the lining, right side down on top. Pin in place. Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance.

Attach the lining to the other side of the zip the same way, leaving a 3-inch opening.

Turn right side out. Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 1/8” away from the zipper, leaving the opening.

Align the outer layer and lining around the zipper. Sew both ends with a seam allowance of 3/8″.

Combine the seams so that a side is formed. Pining outer and lining together. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″. Sew the 4 sides in the same way.

Turn out our pencil pouch through the hole that we left not stitched. After this, sew up this hole, and the pencil pouch is ready!

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
