DIY Continuous Bias Tape

A common way to make a bias binding is:
Cut a fabric diagonally on your fabric at a 45 degree angle to the direction of the weave.
Lay two strip, right sides together, at 90 degrees to each other and sew at 45 degrees, so that when you fold it back it makes a straight line of fabric.

But today I want to show you my favorite way of making continuous bias binding.
This method is easy, and you can make bias binding in bulk in a short time.
Check out my youtube video for detailed information.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

You can make “5 yard of Binding from 1/4 yard of Fabric” by doing the following:

Fold the fabric diagonally.
Then cut out the rest.

Cut the fabric diagonally.

Place the right sides together and sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.
Open out, open the seam and press.

Then, mark lines on the bias grain of the fabric on the wrong side.

Fold the fabric so that the lines cross each other as shown in the photo.

Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Cut the fabric along the line, you have a 5 yard bias binding.

You can make “10 yard of Binding from 1/2 yard of Fabric” by doing the following:

Fold the fabric diagonally.

Cut the fabric diagonally.
Move the triangle you cut to the other side of the fabric. Just slide it over without twisting, turning, or flipping. This will leave it in the right orientation to sew. We’ll be sewing it into a parallelogram.

With right sides together using a 3/8” seam allowance sew along this edge.
Press seam open to reduce bulk.

Mark lines on the bias grain of the fabric on the wrong side.

Fold the fabric so that the lines cross each other as shown in the photo.

Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Cut the fabric along the line, you have a 10 yard bias binding.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
