DIY Drawstring Tote Bag

This drawstring tote bag will help you on your way to feeling more organized. And this will make it simple to sort, pack, and access your stuff anytime. There is a front zip pocket is great for holding your phone. Just follow the step-by-step instructions and you will have your own drawstring bag.

How to sew a lunch bag at home

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 10″(25㎝) W × 7″(17.5㎝) H × 2″(5㎝) D.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( Quilting Cotton )
1   12¾″ × 8¾″ (32㎝ × 22㎝)
1   12¾″ × 2½″ (32㎝ × 6.5㎝)
1   12¾″ × 6⅝″ (32㎝ × 16.5㎝)
2   12¾″ × 7¼″ (32㎝ × 18.5㎝)
2   2⅜″ × 11½″ (6㎝ × 29㎝)

Lining ( Quilting Cotton )
2   12¾″ × 8¾″ (32㎝ × 22㎝)
1   12¾″ × 5⅝″ (32㎝ × 14㎝)
1   12¾″ × 7″ (32㎝ × 17.5㎝)
1   11⅜″ × 10¼″ (29㎝ × 26㎝)

Zipper
1   12″ (30㎝)

Fusible fleece (It is similar to Pellon 987F ‘ or ‘Vilene H630’)
2   12″ × 8″ ( 30㎝ × 20㎝ )

5㎜ Cotton Cord 59¼″(150㎝)

The pattern for making this can be drawn by yourself by watching my YouTube video.

Place the zipper right sides together on top of the outer layer. Place the lining on top of the zip. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.

Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zip the same way. Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 1/8” away from the zipper.

Place and sew the handles 3⅝″ interval.

Place the right sides together of the outer layers and sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Combine the seams so that a flat base is formed. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Place the right sides together of the cover and sew both sides leaving 2¾″ on the top.

Fold the unstitched part twice into 3/8″ and 3/4″. Sew the fold line.

The cover is ready.

Place the right sides together of the outer and cover. Put them inside the lining.

Sew all the way around with an allowance of about 3/8″. And turn right side out the bag through an opening on the lining.

Topstitch all the way around of the top of the bag entrance.

Sew up the opening on the lining.

Start inserting the string through one end of the casing, using a safety pin. Continue inserting the string into the casing on the other side. Next, take the other string and start inserting it through the casing from the opposite side. Continue as before. Tie the ends of the string in a knot and pull the ends to close the bag.
