DIY Pretty Tote Bag

This is a pretty bag with a different design than the usual tote bag.
It consists of the front and back of the bag, the gusset, and the front pocket.
There is no zipper, so it can be made somewhat simpler.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( quilting cotton )
2   12⅝″ × 12⅝″ (32㎝ × 32㎝)
1   12⅝″ × 10¼″ (32㎝ × 26㎝)
1   5″ × 33½″ (10㎝ × 85㎝)
2   13⅝″ × 15⅞″ (8㎝ × 40㎝)

Lining ( quilting cotton )
2   12⅝″ × 12⅝″ (32㎝ × 32㎝)
1   12⅝″ × 10¼″ (32㎝ × 26㎝)
1   5″ × 33½″ (10㎝ × 85㎝)

Interfacing (Mid-weight woven – Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex’ or ‘Vilene G700’)
2   12⅝″ × 12⅝″ (32㎝ × 32㎝)
1   12⅝″ × 10¼″ (32㎝ × 26㎝)
1   5″ × 33½″ (10㎝ × 85㎝)

18㎜ Magnetic button

Cut the interfacing into the shape of the pattern.
And fuse the fusible interfacing, centered, to the wrong side.

Place the right sides together of the front pocket panel.
And sew the top with an allowance seam of about 3/8″
Then open out, press pieces away from and top stitch with an allowance seam of about 1/8”.

Place the front pocket on the right side of the outer layer.
Sew all the way around, leaving the entrance of the pocket.

Fold the handle pieces in half, wrong sides together to make a crease.
Then fold each edge in toward the middle and press.
Stitch along both long edges of the strip, 1/8” from the edge.
Place the handle on the right side of the outer layer.
And baste with long stitch 1/8 inch from the top.

Pin the Gusset to the Main Panel, pinning first at the center. Then pin the ends in place.
Continue to pin along only the straight edges of the Main Panel, there is no fiddling for these points.
With sharp scissors make small snips on the gusset at the round shape of the main panel.
The small snips will help the curved edge of the pouch.

Sew all the way around with an allowance of about 3/8″.

With sharp scissors make small snips on both sides of the round bottom.
The small snips will help the zip adapt to the curved edge of the bag.

Place and pin the outer layer of the bag over the top of the lining with the right sides together.
Sew all the way around.

Turn out the bag through the hole that we left not stitched on the lining.
After this, sew up this hole.

Magnetic buttons are attached to the lining.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
