DIY Small Handy Pouch

It’s a multi-purpose zipper pouch the size of the palm of your hand.  This is great for storing small cosmetics or sewing tools. I’ve shared a pattern so you can make this.

Cosmetic Zipper Pouch Sewing Pattern & Tutorial

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 5¼″(13㎝) W × 4⅝″(11.5㎝) H × 2⅜″(5㎝) D.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( Quilting cotton )
1   6″ × 11⅞″(15㎝ × 30㎝)
1   12⅞″ × 2⅜″(32.5㎝ × 6㎝)
1   6″ × 2⅜″(15㎝ × 6㎝)

Lining ( quilting cotton )
1   6″ × 11⅞″(15㎝ × 30㎝)
1   12⅞″ × 2⅜″(32.5㎝ × 6㎝)

Zipper
1   11⅞″(30㎝)

Fusible fleece (It is similar to Pellon 987F ‘ or ‘Vilene H630’)
1   5¼″ × 11⅛″(13㎝ × 28㎝)
1   12⅛″ × 1⅝″(30.5㎝ × 4㎝)

1⅝″(4㎝) wide bias tape 27¾″(70㎝)

Cut the interfacing into the shape of the pattern.
And fuse the fusible fleece, centered, to the wrong side.

Cut by adding 3/8” from the edge of the interfacing.

With assembled lining right side up, center zipper right side facing up along top edge.

Place the outer layer, right side down on top. Pin in place. Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance.

Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 1/8” away from the zipper.

Fold the handle fabric in half, wrong sides together to make a crease. Then fold each edge in toward the middle and press. Stitch along both long edges of the strip, 1/8” from the edge. Place it in the center of the outer fabric and sew both ends.

Place the zipper panel in the center of the main panel. Sew only 2 inch on both sides.

Sew the edges of the main panel together with the outer and lining.

Pin the Gusset to the Main Panel, pinning first at the center. Then pin the ends in place. Continue to pin along only the straight edges of the Main Panel, there is no fiddling for these points. With sharp scissors make small snips on the gusset at the round shape of the main panel. The small snips will help the curved edge of the pouch. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Face the side of the bias to the seam allowance and sew.

Wrap the seam allowance with a bias, fold and sew.

Turn right side out.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
