DIY Travel Pouch Bag

This is a zipper pouch that can be used for various purposes such as a pencil case, a toiletry bag, and a tool bag. When you open the zipper, it is easy to find the items inside the pouch, and when you close the zipper, the contents do not spill out. Anyone who is used to sewing zippers can easily make this.

How to make a Project Pouch or Pencil Case

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 7⅜″(18.5㎝) W × 3⅜″(8.5㎝) H × 3⅜″(8.5㎝) D.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( quilting cotton )
1   11½″ × 10⅞″(29㎝ × 27.5㎝)
2   11½″ × 1⅜″(29㎝ × 3.5㎝)
1   3¼″ × 5″(8㎝ × 12.5㎝)
1   1⅝″ × 2¾″(4.5㎝ × 7㎝)

2   11½″ × 2⅜″(29㎝ × 6.5㎝)

Lining ( quilting cotton )
2   11½″ × 2⅜″(29㎝ × 6.5㎝)
1   11½″ × 9⅝″(29㎝ × 24.5㎝)

Zipper
1   10″(25㎝)

Fusible fleece (It is similar to Pellon 987F ‘ or ‘Vilene H630’)
1   10¾″ × 10⅛″(27㎝ × 25.5㎝)

The pattern for making this can be drawn by yourself by watching my YouTube video.

Cut the interfacing into the shape of the pattern. And fuse the fusible fleece, centered, to the wrong side. Cut by adding 3/8” from the edge of the interfacing.

Fold the outer later right sides together in half, and sew both sides with a seam allowance of 3/8″.

Combine the seams so that a flat base is formed. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Turn right side out.

Place the right sides together of the two lining patches and sew both sides with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Place the zipper right sides together on top of the outer layer. Pin only 7⅛″ of the zipper. Place the lining on top of the zip.
Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.

Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zip the same way.

Flip the layers so the outer bag pieces are right sides together, and the lining pieces are right sides together. Sew both sides. Fold the outer layer so that it comes out.

Place the right sides together of the zipper panel and lining patch and sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Put the zipper panel and the lining on top of each other, and sew with an allowance of about 3/8″, leaving a 3-inch opening.

Place the outer and inner lining face to face, overlap them, and secure with pins. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

After turning it over through the opening, fold the lining patch inward to arrange it.

Fold the seam allowance of the opening inward, and then topstitch all the way around.

Turn right side out.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
