DIY Tray Pencil Case

This is a long box-shaped pencil case or makeup bag.
When you open the zipper, a tray divided into 3 compartments appears. It is convenient to organize things by dividing them.
Let’s make this zipper pouch with me.

3 Compartments Pouch Bag Tutorial

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 7⅜″ (18.5㎝) W × 3″(7.5㎝) H × 2⅛″(5.5㎝) D.

You may watch the full video tutorial on my Youtube channel.

Share this video with a lot of people who need it.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( quilting cotton )
2   8⅛″ × 3¾″(20.5㎝ × 9.5㎝)
1   6¾″ × 2⅞″(17㎝ × 7.5㎝)
2   14½″ × 1⅝″(36.6㎝ × 4.25㎝)

Lining ( quilting cotton )
2   8⅛″ × 3¾″(20.5㎝ × 9.5㎝)
1   6¾″ × 2⅞″(17㎝ × 7.5㎝)
2   14½″ × 1⅝″(36.6㎝ × 4.25㎝)
2   8″ × 5½″(20㎝ × 14㎝)
2   7¾″ × 5½″(19.5㎝ × 14㎝)

Zipper (2 zipper sliders)
1   14½″(37㎝)

Interfacing (Mid-weight woven – Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex’ or ‘Vilene G700’)
2   8⅛″ × 3¾″(20.5㎝ × 9.5㎝)
1   6¾″ × 2⅞″(17㎝ × 7.5㎝)
2   14½″ × 1⅝″(36.6㎝ × 4.25㎝)
2   7″ × 4¾″(17.5㎝ × 12㎝)

Bias tape – 43½″(110㎝)

The pattern for making this can be drawn by yourself by watching my YouTube video.

Cut the interfacing into the shape of the pattern.
And fuse the intefacing, centered, to the wrong side.

Face the wrong sides of the outer layer and the lining and sew all the way around.

Insert 2 zipper slides on both side of the zipper.

Layer an outer piece face up, then the zipper face down along one edge, and then the lining face down.
Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.

Use the same process to sew the zipper to the other side of the pouch pieces.

Sew both ends of the zipper panel and the back panel facing each other.

When turned inside out, it becomes a single ring shape.

Check out my video for details on how to make a partition.

Do this by marking the quater of your front panel and the quater of your gusset.
Now, using your quater marks, start pining the front of your gusset around the perimeter of your front.

With sharp scissors make small snips on the gusset at the round shape of the main panel. The small snips will help the curved edge of the pouch.
Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Use the same process to sew the back panel to the other side of the gusset.

Sew the partition you made earlier to one side of the lining first.

Wrap the seam allowance with a bias binding and sew.

When attaching a divider on the other side, sew the bottom side of the bias first, then attach the divider and sew the rest of the bias.

Turn inside out and arrangement the shape.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
