DIY Zippered Tote Bag

This is the perfect zippered tote bag for everyone. When you open the hidden zipper, the flat opening opens wide and you can easily access the items inside the bag. It looks like it can be used for multiple purposes, such as an outing bag, a project bag, and a travel toiletries bag.

How to sew Open Wide Project Bag

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 10¾″(27㎝) W × 9⅛″(23㎝) H × 4″(10㎝) D.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( quilting cotton )
2   10¾″ × 11½″(27㎝ × 29㎝)
2   10¾″ × 1¾″(27㎝ × 4.5㎝)
2   4¾″ × 6⅛″(12㎝ × 15.5㎝)
1   2″ × 2¾″(5㎝ × 7㎝)

Lining ( quilting cotton )
1   10¾″ × 20⅛″(27㎝ × 51㎝)
2   4¾″ × 6⅛″(12㎝ × 15.5㎝)
2   10¼″ × 10¼″(26㎝ × 26㎝)

Zipper
1   14″(35㎝)

Fusible fleece (It is similar to Pellon 987F ‘ or ‘Vilene H630’)
1   10¾″ × 22¼″(27㎝ × 56㎝)
2   4¾″ × 6⅛″(12㎝ × 15.5㎝)

1″ (2.5㎝) wide Webbing Strap 27¾″(70㎝)
1⅝″(4㎝) wide bias tape 79″(200㎝)

The pattern for making this can be drawn by yourself by watching my YouTube video.

Cut the interfacing into the shape of the pattern.
And fuse the fusible fleece, centered, to the wrong side.

Place the wrong sides together of the outer and lining of sides and sew all the way around with an allowance of about 1/4″.

The top of the side plate is adjusted with a bias tape.

Place pockets on the right side of the lining of the main fabric and sew two compartments on one side and three compartments on the other side.

Place the zipper on the right side of the lining and fold the tail of the zipper down.

Place the lining patch, right side down on top. Pin in place. Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance.

Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zip the same way.

Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 1/8” away from the zipper.

Place the wrong sides together of the outer and lining and sew all the way around with an allowance of about 1/4″.

Pin the side panel to the Main Panel, pinning first at the center. Then pin the ends in place. Sew 3 sides with an allowance of about 1/4″.

Pin the bias tape to the details. The bias tape is placed and pinned as pictured, stitch up to the end.

Stitch from the right side seam into seam, or sew manually from the backside.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
