DIY Handy Purse Bag

This “Handy Purse Bag” is perfect for going out for a while. It includes six card slots, a cash or checkbook slot, a strap and magnetic snap closure. By making your own bag, you get to personalize it by choosing your own fabric.

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 8″(20㎝) W × 5″(12.5㎝) H × 1¼″(3㎝) D.

To make this you will need:

Main Fabric
2   9¼″ × 4½″ (23.5㎝ × 11.5㎝) Outer layer
1   9¼″ × 4⅜″ (23.5㎝ × 11㎝) Contrast Color Fabric
1   9¼″ × 11⅞″ (23.5㎝ × 30㎝) Lining
1   8½″ × 11⅛″ (21.5㎝ × 28㎝) Fusible fleece

Flab Fabric
1   7½″ × 4¾″ (19㎝ × 12㎝) Outer layer
1   7½″ × 4¾″ (19㎝ × 12㎝) Lining
1   7½″ × 4⅜″ (19㎝ × 11㎝) Fusible fleece
1   7½″ × 4⅜″ (19㎝ × 11㎝) Mid-weight woven fusible interfacing

Card Slot
1   8¼″ × 10⅝″ (21㎝ × 26.5㎝) Outer layer
1   8¼″ × 4⅜″ (21㎝ × 11㎝) Lining
1   7½″ × 2″ (19㎝ × 5㎝) Mid-weight woven fusible interfacing
1   7½″ × 2¼″ (19㎝ × 5.5㎝) Mid-weight woven fusible interfacing
1   7½″ ×2⅜″ (19㎝ × 6㎝) Mid-weight woven fusible interfacing

Magnetic Buttons
Purses Strap
2   5/8″(1.5㎝) wide D ring
2   2⅜″ × 1⅝″ (6㎝ × 4㎝) D ring Fabric
4㎝(1⅝″) wide bias tape 16⅝″(42㎝)

Place the right sides together of the outer layer and contrast color fabric and sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Open out, press pieces. Fuse the fusible fleece, centered, to the wrong side of the outer.

Round off the bottom corners on both sides of the flap.

Fold the card slot fabric as instructed in the video. Sew across the top of each of these.

Now stitch the center where the fold was.

Place the right sides together of the outer and lining. Stitch around all sides leaving a 2 inch gap at the bottom for turning the right side out. Turn the right side out and press.

Place the card slot on the right side of the lining and sew.

Place the wrong sides together of the outer and lining of the falp and sew with an allowance of about 1/4″.

Place the bias tape on the right side of the flap and sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Stitch from the right side seam into seam, or sew manually from the backside.

Place the flap on the right side of the outer layer and sew.

Fold the outer and lining right sides together in half, and sew both sides with a seam allowance of 3/8″.

Combine the seams so that a flat base is formed. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Turn the lining right side out. Put the lining inside outer layer.

Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″, leaving an opening.

Turn it right side out by pulling the fabric through the opening. Press, pin and topstitch around all the top edges.

Attach the purse strap.
