Ever find yourself at the checkout realizing you forgot your reusable bags again? This DIY folding bag is so compact you can keep it in your purse or pocket at all times. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to sew a durable shoulder-style bag that’s both feather-light and incredibly strong. It’s a rewarding project that makes sustainable living so much easier.
The finished measurements of this Shoulder Bag are approximately 16⅝″(42㎝) W × 15″(38㎝) H.

Seam allowances are 1/4″ unless otherwise specified.
Let's get started!!
To make this you will need:
◆ Main panel
② 17¾″ × 27⅝″ (45㎝ × 70㎝) Outer layer
◆ Others
① 1⅜″(3.5㎝) Wide bias tape 130½″(330㎝)
Use the leftover fabric from the handle cutouts to create a functional pocket.
Place the two pocket pieces right sides together (RST) and stitch with a 1/4″ seam allowance.
Turn the piece right side out. Fold up 4″ from the bottom on both the front and back sides, then sew along both side edges.
Turn the completed pocket right side out again. Position it on the inside of the main fabric and stitch the top edge to secure it.
Place the two main fabric panels with wrong sides together (WST) and sew along the edges with a 3/16″ seam allowance.
Turn the bag inside out (so the right sides are now facing each other) and sew again with a 1/4″ seam allowance.
(Note: This is the French Seam technique, which hides the raw edges perfectly!
Use the same method (French Seam) when connecting the handles for a clean and sturdy finish.
Bind the edges of the shoulder straps with bias tape to complete your bag.
(Tip: You can also use a double-fold hem instead of bias tape for a different look.)
YOU ARE FINISHED!
