DIY Carry-All Pouch

I made “Carry-All Pouch” with zip closure. The inside of this pouch is divided into compartments, so it is convenient to organize things. I think it’s great for using a pencil case or travel pouch.

How to make a zip around Pencil Case

The finished measurements of this pouch are approximately 4½″(11.5㎝) W × 7¾″(19.5㎝) H × 3/4″(2㎝) D.

1   4½″ × 4¾″ (11.5㎝ × 12㎝)
1   4½″ × 5¾″ (11.5㎝ × 14.5㎝)

The pattern for making this can be drawn by yourself by watching my YouTube video.

Fold the longest lining fabric three times. Top stitch the two pocket entrance.

Place the pocket on the right side of the lining and sew.

Place a bias tape on the right side of the lining and sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Fold the bias outward twice and sew the zipper to fit.

Place the zipper pocket on the right side of the lining and sew.

With assembled lining right side up, center zipper right side facing up along top edge. Pin in place. Place the outer layer, right side down on top. Pin in place. Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance.

Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.

Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zip the same way.
Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 1/8” away from the zipper.

Place the zipper panel between the outer and lining of the gusset and sew.

Use the same process to sew the zipper panel to the other side of the gusset.

A side panels have been combined into one.

Place the wrong sides together of the outer and lining and sew all the way edges.

Pin the Side Panel to the Main Panel, pinning first at the center. Then pin the ends in place. Continue to pin along only the straight edges of the Main Panel, there is no fiddling for these points. With sharp scissors make small snips on the side panel at the round shape of the main panel. The small snips will help the curved edge of the pouch. Sew around all the edges.

The bias tape is placed and pinned as pictured, stitch up to the end.

Stitch from the right side seam into seam, or sew manually from the backside.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
