DIY 15″ LAPTOP BAG

This is a bag that can hold a 15-inch laptop.
Pockets on the front and inside of the bag create plenty of storage space.
Quilt batting is applied to all parts of the bag to protect the laptop.
Make your own practical and durable laptop bag.

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 15¾″(40㎝) W × 12″(30㎝) H × 1⅞″(5㎝) D.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( quilting cotton ) – 3/4 yard
2  16½″ × 10″( 42㎝ × 25㎝ )
1  16½″ × 14″( 42㎝ × 35㎝ )
1  11½″ × 7½″( 29.5㎝ × 19㎝ )
2  20¾″ × 1½″( 52㎝ × 4㎝ )
2  2⅝″ × 7⅜″( 7㎝ × 18.5㎝ )
2  13⅞″ × 5½″( 35㎝ ×14㎝ )

Contrast color fabric ( quilting cotton ) – 1/4 yard
2  16½″ × 3½″ ( 42㎝ × 9㎝ )
1  21″ × 2⅝″( 53㎝ × 7㎝ )

Lining ( quilting cotton ) – 1 yard
2  16½″ × 12¾″( 42㎝ × 32㎝ )
2  20¾″ × 1½″( 52㎝ × 4㎝ )
1  34¼″ × 2⅝″(86㎝ × 7㎝)
2  16½″ × 19½″( 42㎝ × 49㎝ )

Zipper
1  20″(50㎝)

Interfacing (Fusible Fleece – 987F Fusible Fleece or Vilene H630)
2  15¾″ × 12″(40㎝ × 30㎝)
2  20″ × 3/4″(50㎝ × 2㎝)
1  33½″ × 1⅞″(84㎝ × 5㎝)
2  15¾″ × 9⅜″(40㎝ × 23.5㎝)

Interfacing (Mid-weight woven – Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex’ or ‘Vilene G700’)
1  16½″ × 7⅜″(42㎝ × 17.5㎝)
1  10¾″ × 3¼″(27.5㎝ × 8.5㎝)

1½″(4㎝) Wide Bias tapes – 114″(290㎝

The pattern for making this can be drawn by yourself by watching my YouTube video.

Make the front pocket and pocket cover.

Apply quilt batting to the inner pocket and place the right side of the lining.

Place the wrong sides together of the outer and lining and sew with an allowance of about 1/4″.

Make handle and place the right side of the outer.
Sew the handles apart at intervals of 4 inches.

 

Place the zipper right sides together (zipper pull down) on top of the outer layer.
Place the lining on top of the zip.
Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.
Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.
Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zip the same way.
Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 1/8” away from the zipper.

Connect the zipper panel and the bottom panel to make a gusset.

Marking the center of a body panel and the center of the zipper panel.
And match the zipper panel to the right side of the body and sew around with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Pin the bias tape to the details.
The bias tape is placed and pinned as pictured, stitch up to the end.
Stitch from the right side seam into seam, or sew manually from the backside.

Turn it right side out.
