DIY Curved Top Bag – Sewing Pattern & Tutorial

Today I am introducing a bag with a zipped closure and a curved opening. There is a zip pocket on the back of the bag, which is good for storing small items separately. Have fun sewing using the pattern I’ve shared.

How to sew Purse Bag with Zipper Pocket

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 10″(25㎝) W × 7⅛″(18㎝) H × 2⅜″(6㎝) D .

You may watch the full video tutorial on my Youtube channel.

Share this video with a lot of people who need it.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( Quilting Cotton )
2   10¾″ × 9″ (27㎝ × 23㎝)

Lining ( Quilting Cotton )
2   10¾″ × 9″ (27㎝ × 23㎝)
1   7½″ × 8¾″ (18.5㎝ × 22㎝)

Zipper
1   6″ (15㎝), 1 6″ (15㎝)

Fusible fleece (It is similar to Pellon 987F ‘ or ‘Vilene H630’)
2   10″ × 8¼″ ( 25㎝ × 21㎝ )

2Pcs Leather Bag Handles

Cut the interfacing into the shape of the pattern.
And fuse the fusible fleece, centered, to the wrong side.

Apply a zipped pocket on the back of the bag. Check out the blog below on how to sew a zip pocket.

With assembled outer layer right side up, center zipper right side facing down along top edge. With sharp scissors make small snips on both sides of the zipper tape. The small snips will help the zip adapt to the curved edge of the pouch and make the inserting the zip easier. Sew with an allowance of about 1/4″.

Place the lining, right side down on top. Pin in place. Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance.

Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zip the same way.

Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 1/8” away from the zipper.

Flip the layers so the outer bag pieces are right sides together, and the lining pieces are right sides together. Sew the outer fabric first. Put the top of the bag towards the outer fabric and sew the lining.

Combine the seams so that a flat base is formed. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.
Turn right side out through an opening on the lining. After this, sew up this hole.

Place and sew the handles 3¼″ interval.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
