DIY Mini Backpack Coin Purse

Today, I made a cute coin purse in the shape of a backpack. It can be used as a small cosmetic bag or money pouch, and it has a key ring so you can hang it on the bag. I hope you will try making it using the pattern I shared.

Cute Zipper Pouch Sewing Pattern & Tutorial

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 3¼″(8㎝) W × 4″(10㎝) H × 1⅜″(3.5㎝) D.

Seam allowances are 1/4″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( Quilting cotton )
1   7¾″ × 10¼″(19.5㎝ × 26㎝)
2   1″ × 6½″(2.75㎝ × 16.5㎝)
1   3¾″ × 3¼″(9.5㎝ × 8㎝)
1   19¾″ × 1¼″(50㎝ × 3㎝)

Lining ( quilting cotton )
1   7¾″ × 10¼″(19.5㎝ × 26㎝)
2   1″ × 6½″(2.75㎝ × 16.5㎝)

Zipper
1   6″(15㎝)

Fusible fleece (It is similar to Pellon 987F ‘ or ‘Vilene H630’)
1   7⅛″ × 9½″(18㎝ × 24㎝)
2   1/2″ × 6″(1.25㎝ × 15㎝)

Key Ring

Cut the interfacing into the shape of the pattern. Fuse the fusible fleece, centered, to the wrong side. Cut by adding 1/4” from the edge of the interfacing.

Fold the pocket fabric in half to make a pocket. Place the pocket on the outer fabric and sew.

Fold the strap piece in half, wrong sides together to make a crease. Then fold each edge in toward the middle and press. Stitch along both long edges of the strap, 1/8” from the edge. Place the strap on the outer fabric as shown in the picture and sew.

With assembled outer layer right side up, center zipper right side facing down along top edge. Pin in place. Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 1/4″ seam allowance.

Use the same process to sew the zipper to the other side of the fabric.

Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 1/8” away from the zipper.

Align both ends of the zipper panel on both ends of the main fabric and sew.

Pin the Gusset to the Main Panel, pinning first at the center. Then pin the ends in place. Continue to pin along only the straight edges of the Main Panel, there is no fiddling for these points. With sharp scissors make small snips on the gusset at the round shape of the main panel. The small snips will help the curved edge of the pouch. Sew with an allowance of about 1/4″.

The zipper panel of the lining is folded and ironed in increments of 1/4 inch. Make the lining in the same way as the outer.

Put the outer material inside the lining. And blind stitch the lining.

Turn right side out.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
