DIY Slim Pencil Case

Today, I made a small and slim zip around pencil case. This pencil case is easy to use and fits in any bag. You get to personalize it by choosing your own fabric.

How to sew a Zip Around Pouch

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 3″(7.5㎝) W × 8″(20㎝) H.

You may watch the full video tutorial on my Youtube channel.

Share this video with a lot of people who need it.

Seam allowances are 3/8″ unless otherwise specified.

Let's get started!!

To make this you will need:

Outer layer ( Quilting Cotton )
1   7⅛″ × 8¾″ (18㎝ × 22㎝)

Lining ( Quilting Cotton )
2   4″ × 8¾″ (10㎝ × 22㎝)
2   4¾″ × 4¾″ (12㎝ × 12㎝)

Zipper
1   14″(35㎝)

Fusible fleece (It is similar to Pellon 987F ‘ or ‘Vilene H630’)
1   6⅜″ × 8″ (16㎝ × 20㎝)

Mid-weight woven fusible interfacing (Pellon SF-101 Shape Flex’ or ‘Vilene G700’)
2   3¼″ × 8″ (8㎝ × 20㎝)
2   4″ × 2″ (10㎝ × 5㎝)

The pattern for making this can be drawn by yourself by watching my YouTube video. Cut the interfacing into the shape of the pattern.
And fuse the interfacing, centered, to the wrong side. Cut by adding 3/8” from the edge of the interfacing.

Place the right sides together of the linings and sew with an allowance of about 3/8″, leaving a 3-inch opening. Open out the linings, open seam and press.

Mark 3/4″ in the center of the top and bottom of the outer fabric. With assembled outer layer right side up, center zipper right side facing down along top edge. Make sure the 3/4″ in the center does not include the zipper. Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance.

Place the lining, right side down on top. Pin in place. Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance.

Turn right side out through the hole that we left not stitched.

Stitch the opening by whip stitch.

Fold the side panel right sides together in half, and sew, leaving an opening.

Turn right side out. Fold the width in half and sew the folded side.

Align the side panel with the side line of the lining. Do whip stitch.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
