DIY Everyday Tote Bag with Zipper

Today, I made a tote bag that I use in general in my daily life. There is a zip pocket on the front of the bag and two pockets on the inside of the bag. And the zipper closure at the entrance of the bag helps you not to lose the items in the bag. Try making a practical bag at home.

Front Pocket Shoulder Bag Tutorial

The finished measurements of this bag are approximately 15″(38㎝) W × 12″(30㎝) H × 3″(8㎝) D.

The pattern for making this can be drawn by yourself by watching my YouTube video.

With assembled lining right side up, center zipper right side facing up along top edge. Pin in place. Place the outer layer, right side down on top. Pin in place. Using your zipper foot, sew along top edge using a 3/8″ seam allowance. Open out, press pieces away from the zipper.

Place the top of the main fabric on the other side of the zipper and sew.

Place the side panel of the main fabric and sew.

On each of the zipper trim strips, fold back each end ⅜” and press in place. Place the zipper right sides together on top of the outer layer. Place the lining on top of the zip.
Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zip the same way. Open out, press pieces away from and top stitch on both 1/8” away from the zipper.

Place and sew the handles 6 inches interval.

Place the zipper panel right sides together on top of the outer layer. Place the lining on top of the zipper panel. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Attach the outer and lining to the other side of the zipper panel the same way.

Flip the layers so the outer bag pieces are right sides together, and the lining pieces are right sides together. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″, leaving a 4-inch opening.

Combine the seams so that a flat base is formed. Sew with an allowance of about 3/8″.

Turn out our tote bag through the hole that we left not stitched. After this, sew up this hole.

Topstitch all the way around of the top of the bag entrance.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

Happy sewing!
