Let's get started!!
To make this you will need:
◆ Main panel
① 18⅜″ × 20″ (46.5㎝ × 50.5㎝) Outer layer
① 18⅜″ × 20″ (46.5㎝ × 50.5㎝) Lining
① 18⅜″ × 20″ (46.5㎝ × 50.5㎝) Fusible fleece
◆ Front pocket
① 4⅜″ × 6⅜″ (11㎝ × 16㎝) Outer layer
① 4⅜″ × 6⅜″ (11㎝ × 16㎝) Fusible fleece
◆ Bottom gusset
① 15⅝″ × 7¾″ (39.5㎝ × 19.5㎝) Outer layer
◆ Inside pocket
① 7½″ × 8¾″ (19㎝ × 22㎝) Lining
◆ Shoulder strap
② 2⅜″ × 38″ (6㎝ × 96㎝) Outer layer
◆ Others
① Roll Zipper_seam allowance included 18⅜(46.5㎝)
① Roll Zipper_seam allowance included 6¾″(17㎝)
Place the piece of fabric for your pocket lining face down, right sides together over your outer piece. Draw a long rectangular box which the teeth of your zipper will fit inside.
Then stitch exactly around the rectangle you just drew. Draw another line through the center of the rectangle right across. At each end, draw a triangle from the corners to that center line. Carefully cut along the center line until your reach the triangle, and then snip into the corners, close to, but not through, your line of stitching. Turn the lining fabric through the hole you just cut and out to the back. Press the opening neatly. Time now to place our zipper. Sewing with the front upper most, stitch around the opening to secure the zipper in place. Fold up the pocket lining and pin along the 3 open sides. Stitch the 3 sides of the pocket lining , making sure to only sew the lining, not through the outer fabric as well.
Separate the zipper and place each half face down on the right side of the main fabric edges. Sew to attach.
Place the lining fabric on top with right sides together and sew along the zipper line. Remember to leave an opening on one side for turning the bag later.
Install the zipper slider and turn the piece wrong side out.
Align the zipper at the center and match the exterior fabrics together and the lining fabrics together. Sew both ends.
Fold the side corners and sew them to create the bag shape.
Turn the bag right side out through the opening. Topstitch the opening to close it and your duffel bag is complete.
All done! We hope you enjoy creating your own wonderful piece. And be sure to check out the [Sewingtimes YouTube channel] for more creative projects.
